Background
Janie was born in Seattle, Washington, on March 20, 1966. Janie’s childhood is mostly unknown, but she is known to have gotten into trouble often after her parent’s divorce.
When Janie was a teenager, she dropped out of high school, began taking drugs, and was possibly a sex worker. She was planning to get married to her boyfriend at the time of her murder.
Disappearance
Janie was last seen on September 26, 1982, leaving the motel room she shared with her boyfriend. It’s unknown what happened to her afterward.
Discovery
Janie’s remains were discovered on January 31, 1983, near a hospital in Seattle, Washington. She was identified four days later via dental records. Though her cause of death couldn’t be determined, her case was deemed a homicide.
Aftermath
Janie’s murder remained unsolved until 2003, when serial killer Gary Ridgway, previously known as the Green River Killer, confessed to her murder. Janie’s case wasn’t connected to the killings when they were happening for unknown reasons. Ridgway was convicted of Janie’s murder along with the murders of forty-eight other women.
